feature on “Institution” profiles the Ocean
Research Institute of the University of Tokyo, Japan,
and the diverse roles its main departments of physical
oceanography, chemical oceanography, marine bioscience,
living marine resources, are executing covering mechanisms
of various atmospheric influences over Sea of Japan,
oceanic response to natural and anthropogenic perturbations,
carbon metabolism in the ocean, etc.
The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed body of water
on earth, bordered by five countries of Kazakhstan,
Turkmenistan, Iran, Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation.
In view of its rich energy and marine resources, the
littoral states have been negotiating for over a decade
to arrive at practical understanding for regulating
the Caspian resources and borders. “Perspective”
