Environment Audit : Part 4 - 58
environment audit
Environment audit is no longer an option. It is now an essential and proactive measure for exploring environmental improvement opportunities, for facilitating management and control of environmental practices, and implementing organisational environmental policy. The Government of Hong Kong, in order to boost systematic incorporation of environmental perspectives into an organisation’s overall operations, has brought out a ‘Simple Guide to Environmental Audit”.

The ‘Simple Guide’ is based on the Hong Kong’s Environmental Protection Department’s Environmental Audit Manual, and provides conceptual overview of audit process and a reference tool to help corporates conduct site-specific environmental audit in professional and efficient manner with regard to relevant statutory and internal requirements.

The ‘Audit Guide’ in the current issue of the WISTA: Environment Audit presents the salient features of the ‘Simple Guide’ and covers such aspects as defining audit scope and audit site; assembling an audit team; and conducting an environmental audit.

The ‘Audit Report’ in this issue relates to the environmental impact assessment of Dwarka-IGI Airport Corridor Metro Link project. The baseline data, necessary for assessing the impact on environment due to the project activities, includes water, land, air, ecology, noise, and socio-economic issues. Apart from land-use, conservation of flora and fauna, and planning urban transportation, conserving and enhancing the environmental assets have been considered imperative and given due importance.

The other features covered include: Scan Around the Globe; New Technologies; New Products; Air, Water, Solid/Hazardous Waste; Legal Scene; In Focus; Crime &Damage; Awards; Health; Energy Scene; Forests; Wildlife; and Experts Converge.
