EXPERTS CONVERGE

Carbon Market in Russia

A recent study found that the temperature increase is inevitable. But cutting greenhouse gases by 70%, could avoid dangerous aspects of climate change and allow the climate to stabilize. It is still arguable if the Kyoto Protocol indeed fights global warming or if the carbon market is a key tool for reducing emssions or if it is just another "Wall Street gambit"

Russia and Ukraine have the largest emission quota surplus in the international carbon market, and if sold abroad, it could crush the world's delicate carbon emissions trading market. A hoard of unspent credits, places Russia and Ukraine in an attractive postion. However, not a single project has been approved so far in Russia.

To discuss the matter, the C5 Conference on the 'Carbon Market in Russia and Ukraine,' is scheduled to take place at TBA, Russia, Moscow on September 23-24, 2010. It will give a unique opportunity for policy markers, project developers and investors to debate and benchmark their opinion and strategies.
